Design for manufacturing
The prototype proved the product works. The production revision makes it cheap and repeatable to build: fewer unique parts, panelisation, test points reachable by a fixture, and a test procedure the assembler can run.
Final design revision with manufacturing, testability and cost optimised, plus a production test procedure.
When you need it
- The prototype is validated and you plan to build more than a handful.
- Your assembler reports yield problems or high setup cost.
- The BOM cost is above target.
What you hand us
- Validated design files and test results.
- Target volume and unit cost.
- Assembler feedback, if any.
What you get back
- Production revision of schematic and layout.
- BOM optimised for cost and second sources.
- Panel design and assembly documentation.
- Production test specification and, where useful, test-jig design.
How we do it
We review the BOM line by line for cost and supply risk, rationalise passive values, and check every footprint against the assembler's process. Test coverage is designed in so that a faulty board is caught at the factory, not by your customer.
Questions about design for manufacturing
Is DFM worth it for 100 units?
Usually yes. At 100 units a few euros saved per board and a lower failure rate pay for the work, and the next production run benefits too.
